A small set of simple designs. I just wanted to try a few different flavors out and I thought this was a good way to present them.

Pixel Chicken

How have I not used this title? I was trying to think of something clever and settled on "I'll just call it Pixel Chicken 3 or something" only to find that Pixel Chicken 1 didn't exist.

I've really let basic pixel art and spriting really fall to the wayside of late. Need to keep these skills polished. After all making random pixel art is something that fundamentally ties into this site, and is a skill I had prior to starting the site. The shading came out well, though I like solid colors in black outlines as a matter of preference.

Power Up

More sprite work. This chicken is powering up so he has a glowy blue aura. I decided he may as well also have a gold combed "super saiyan" version since I was doing it anyways.

Rider

Staying on the track of sprites this is more actually one. It has a 4 frame walk cycle and a special jump frame. I didn't realize I was working so small until after this was already finished. I animated and zoomed in using Photoshop. I wanted to add some animation to the top of him, but because it's so small I couldn't do any subtle motion in the tail or bob the head without it looking like a major move.

Stand Tall

It's nice to shift back to the relatively limited medium of pixel art. Well, more like spriting really than the broader pixel art. I mean I kind of always do that... Working with a limited color palette and small canvas. It's just a single sprite though, not like a full blown sprite sheet.

This is a truly domineering fowl.

8x8

Working in a small or limited form factor is a nice way to make myself do something unique. That being said I decided to make an 8x8 chicken. That didn't seem significant enough to post though so I made a few variations. I'm not sure which is my favorite.

Color Picker

This is a small chicken. I wanted to make a little sprite with a small clear look to it. One of these I'm going to be making a full Sprite Sheet for, so if you guys have some feedback about which of these colorations looks best I would like to hear it. I think I like 2 or 5, though 1 and 4 seem better. 3 and 6 are different. I don't know if they're actually worth including.

Classic Pixel Art

From among the ashes of the two week break I thought I announced but actually didn't I bring this retro-chic throwback to classic pixel art. The precise pixel by pixel craftsmanship is completely invisible to your modern retina displays and Ultra-HD TVs, but I like it quite a bit. Whenever I do this I consider including a blown up version so you can see it clearly but I decided against it this time. Please enjoy.

Pixelly

This piece is quite pixelly. I mean it actually isn't. I just put a lot of effort into making it look like it was by spacing things out with the large square brush.

Nice Sprite

I was feeling kind of video-game-esque so this chicken is a sprite. It's actually the first time I've done something pixel-by-pixel like this in a while. Those tail feathers came out fairly well.

8 in 7 Styles... 800th Post

Sorry for the delay I couldn't seem to come up with anything dramatic for my 800th post. I hadn't realized it was coming up and hadn't prepared.

So we have here eight chickens, because this is post eight hundred. I drew them in 7 styles, though no two are really the same. It was just that I wanted to maintain this basic coloring in all of them, though I did do black and white for the Gritty Sharpness. Also that pixel art one isn't up-scaled. It was kind of a pain to work with that methodology, using the large square brush and making sure it lined up right. Abstract stands out with his lack of eye.

With this resolved I expect to return to my usual pace.

Pixel This

I was talking about Pixel art and that made me want to take a moment and do some. So I did. This is it. I am a bit unhappy with the left leg. That's the one on the right if you're unsure

Mergle

Promise this isn't some sorta death flail. This is something that got made while I wasn't posting though.

AIM Icons

My apologies friends. Of late my output has been rather abysmal. I'll try to turn that around. And I'll start that off with this slew of picks.

To be more specific these are AIM icons. At least that is my intent with them. I'm not actually sure that people still use AIM though to be honest. I mean I know I haven't used it in quite some time. Regardless the icons are good for whatever. I mean 50x50 is a pretty good size. I could make one of these my avatar on a site or my icon on here even.

Also I got bored and made the 2x2 chicken. It's not very identifiable, but I expected that. This is as small as my chickens gets, since I took that comment as a challenge Ninja Mike.

Super Tiny

This is how small I can get while still being able to tell what I'm doing
Smaller than 3x3 and it's could be anything. Hardly even identifiable as is... Mind, you're going to have a hard time making heads or tails of the image I've posted here...

Well, I might see how well I can do with a 2x2 at some point, but not right now. And if anything it will just be a bonus thing with another picture

8 in 1 Hour: Tiny Pixel

This is a teeny tiny pixel art guy. I don't know why I decided to do pixel art during this. It's tiny and lacks impact and takes longer to do. But I like it. Hell, I might do more!

Block By Block

Sometimes I like to work pixel by pixel, but well those are tiny and you don't really get to see the work, resizing them to be bigger just looks weird though. The big blocks here on the grid sheet are good. I like the effect of the grid lines.

Bad Graphics

Right here I have a bad graphics chickens. Like something on a old DOS game. Well, that's entirely inaccurate. I've never used a computer with less than 16 colors so what do I know. That's kinda what I was going off of. Maybe a bit of Bad Graphics Ghost from Homestar Runner
