Kill
By

This piece is a true return to form, with the reemergence of the "Gritty Sharpness" Style, last seen in early 2017. The clear and decisive messaging is impossible to ignore. "Kill" resonates with so many people on a deep level.

Colorful Sharpness is not to be confused with Colorful Grit or Gritty Sharpness.

Gritty Blueness
By

I'm not really happy with this one. I think I need to undergo some sort of remedial Gritty Sharpness training. It is after all my signature style. Also I was going to claim that this was the first gritty blueness, but that's not even true.

Sleep. It's a dear old friend that one might ignore and resist at night and reluctantly cut short in the morning. It really is important though, so I'll talk to you all later.
This is my first Gritty Sharpness-type piece in a while. I still like this black and white heavily shadowed stylized design.

Chicken Heroics Expansion In Progress
By
Chicken Maker
at
I have started on quite a few follow-ups to Chicken Heroics and finished... Almost nothing. I have 3 or 4 half written things on this hard drive. Clearly the issue is that I'm not telling you guys. Once I say I'm doing it I feel like I need to finish. This short expansion is focused on magic, because my explanation of magic in the core book was like a paragraph. Also because Roosters and Rituals seemed like a good title. I can flesh it out to a 4-8 page booklet no problem. Make up some new rules. Add some new spells. It'll be sitting pretty.

Chicken in One Click
By

Long ago on this site I drew a whale that I called "Chicken in Two Clicks." Well, here's a chicken drawn in one, and as a bonus it even looks like one. I covered up a lot of mistakes with the Gritty Sharpness shading...Now, I won't tell you it's my bst work, but it isn't bad. With I'd done more with those tail-feathers, but I couldn't exactly do any touch-ups without defeating the purpose.

Wearing the helmet perceptions of reality are faint as it fills your senses with the input from the system.
This is, I believe, the most detail I have tried to render using my "Gritty Sharpness" style of black and white cel-shading-esque art. How did it work?

New Grit

This is the New Grit. It's roughly the same as the old grit but it will never really compare. It's not a knock-off or anything but it doesn't have any real impact.

Gritty Martial Artist

The battles had been going for so long now. His talons were stained with blood and it was hard to even think he had the right to stand in the light of the world anymore. In that moment he realized that something else was coming.
This is the return of what has been called my signature style, the Gritty Sharpness. I don't use it very often because, well, black and white feels kind of lazy.

Small Gritty

Here is a small instance of the traditional "Gritty Sharpness" style that this site is well known for. That's definitely not an exaggeration.

You can tell this guy's the ruffled tough guy type because of 3 factors.
1) The Crinkled Cigarette; They don't make you cool!
2) The Cards; He's almost definitely not playing Magic The Gathering or something. He's a rough tough gambling man!
3) The Gritty Sharpness; I don't think I did a gritty nerdness, but it sounds familiar so maybe I did.

Chicken Heroics: Magic
By

Magic is a key part of all fantasy games. How it works and what it is matters. In this game Magic is the only part that does not use an opposing roll. You flip a number of coins and need to get a set number of heads. If you do then the spell worked, if not it fizzles away.
I actually used Gritty Sharpness for any chicken currently using a spell since it feels mysterious. I'm done adding things to this game. I'm going to polish things up, finish anything that is half done, and then it'll be done.

Looking Up
By

This one started as a plain boring chicken, but I decided to make it blue, toss some of the black cell-shading I call gritty sharpness on it and throw out the body. Now it's an interesting piece. It is just a tad disorienting.

8 in 7 Styles... 800th Post
By
Chicken Maker
at
Sorry for the delay I couldn't seem to come up with anything dramatic for my 800th post. I hadn't realized it was coming up and hadn't prepared.
So we have here eight chickens, because this is post eight hundred. I drew them in 7 styles, though no two are really the same. It was just that I wanted to maintain this basic coloring in all of them, though I did do black and white for the Gritty Sharpness. Also that pixel art one isn't up-scaled. It was kind of a pain to work with that methodology, using the large square brush and making sure it lined up right. Abstract stands out with his lack of eye.
With this resolved I expect to return to my usual pace.

Colorful Grit
By

The grit of today has a lot more color than the grit of yesteryear. Black and white is the past. As are bright colors. Modern colors are dull and brown, but we just aren't ready for that step yet. These are just darker colors. Next up is said realistic browns.

8 in 1 Hour: A Deep Holler
By

I decided to hit up some gritty sharpness for this picture. I haven't used it lately and I do tend to think of it as my signature style. I figured I should make one. Also I like the idea of a chicken making a speech, so that's what this is. You understand that much right. Well, it's not very hard to understand. It's not all that deep. This is just a thrilling and dramatic speech delivered by a brave and tough as nails chicken.

Struck Grit

I'd like to start my apologizing. I've received a number of fan pieces lately(Three!) and haven't posted anything of my own creation on the site. But don't worry. I have one today(And will give you that last fan piece probably tomorrow)
The blue eyed fellow in the upper class business tycoon who hired the tough, down to earth green eyed bloke. Of course over the course of their quest they both had to become stronger, hence the grittiness. But still their personalities clashed at every turn, with the tycoon refusing to accept the bloke's hard earned know-how.
