Up-Swing

He's been dashing forward and finally caught the wind under his wings. Soon he will take flight. Similarly we have completely the goal set last year of making more posts this year than last. As you can clearly see we have now beaten last years number of posts by 1.

Jump Turn

One very impressive jumping spin flip. It's the only reasonable way to turn around.

Traditional Christmas End

And at this time I will wrap up Christmas in the traditional manner. The traditional Christmas Fowl rides across the red sky of dusk on his golden star, releasing the green light that will one day become Spring. That's a normal and traditional Christmas thing, right?

Stealth Ace

The true master of disguise, Stealth Ace, has cleverly hidden himself in a brightly colored box. No one will notice it under this Christmas tree... If only he'd realized that is was a pine tree outside and not actually a Christmas tree at all, perhaps it would be more effective.

Chilly Returns

This is a sequel to the original Chilly the Snowchicken. I feel I have improved a lot, but still I like the original as well. Anyways, it comes with the same song. I don't recall anything about the actual Frosty Returns after all. Happy Birthday!

Wizard Nick

This was supposed to be another Santa but he felt too wizard-esque to me so instead of Saint Nick he's Wizard Nick. In between giving corn to good chicks he fights off evil foxes. Chances are he just magics all the toys up as well.

Santa Hat

In order to differentiate this piece from the collection I chose to use a very limited palette, letting the reds of the comb and wattle match the felt. The same is true of the fur and feathers. In a shift I let the eye take an orange color shared by the beak. This limited palette lets the piece showcase the thin distinctions we make between the reality and the ideals of Christmas. Merry Christmas everyone.

Merry Xmas 2012

Merry Christmas everyone. I wanted to post something right away so I did.

This year I decided to do multiple pictures which I have scheduled to release throughout the day while I'm out and about doing Christmas things. Last year I nearly forgot all together and that wasn't any fun, so this year I decided to go wild with it.

Color Flip

I decided to do some nice straight forward solid color chickens, since I haven't in a while. Fairly certain Red is working on some sort of high flying heist, with lots of repelling down ropes. He's surprised to find Green, P.I., waiting for him when he gets there.

Adorable

I just decided to think things through and get my priorities for this piece in order. I just went all in for Adorableness and abandoned any other things. By maximizing the cuteness I did lose some things, like proportions. The giant head is fine though because as I said only thinking about making this adorable.

Stripe Pattern

Today I present a lovely stripe pattern. Alternating between black and brown it presents a vision of many chickens in lines. Now, in retrospect I wish I'd thought to design this so that it can loop and be a background or something. It can't though.

Tourist

This is a tourist. He's gonna snap some nice pics.

Nice Sprite

I was feeling kind of video-game-esque so this chicken is a sprite. It's actually the first time I've done something pixel-by-pixel like this in a while. Those tail feathers came out fairly well.

Echoes of the Past

Barry the Hawk, a fearsome chicken, is always looking over his shoulder even since the fight against a hawk that earned him the name. He knows that they're out for revenge, but they always back down to his glare. Even now he looks out for echoes of his past.

Time Step

Green has stepped through time, but red still wavers looking at the edge of the time. He must cross the cyan path and follow Green though, and Red knows he really has no choice.

Circles and Lines

This piece is going into a more formal construction of the stylized chicken I present on a regular basis. The design in made of simple shaped and lines along centers and interceptions but has not yet been smoothed into it's final form.

I was glancing at a figure drawing book because I saw it and figured why not, and it reminded me of the first time I saw actual directions to draw people by, with like dozens of circles and lines through them and I decided it was crazy. So I did.

Drab Cloak

In a vast desert world Grayfowl walks alone, wearing an olive drab cloak torn and battered by the environment. The world around him fell a long time ago. The endless sands and distorted sun are all that's left in the world.

Dulled

For this site this month has been rather inactive. I feel like that's half of my messages sometimes but well I suppose I just apologize too much. Anyways this chicken is exhausted. You can tell from his dulled colors and dot eye.

Bots

There are so many bots on this site now. It used to be amusing. Like when they were all posting on a single picture. It was funny to me. I didn't mind at all. In fact I found it entertaining. They're posting more now and spreading all around. So I'll be deleting all the comments... Except on that picture. I still find that entertaining.

I don't mind really blunt advertising. I've said that before. You wanna advertise your thing you go right ahead and post "CHECK OUT MY SITE!" or whatever you want but I don't like these form comment these things post up.

Some of these comments make me rather excited until I saw who posted them. Like this one:

"Youre so cool! I dont suppose Ive learn anything like this before. So good to seek out any individual with some unique ideas on this subject. realy thanks for starting this up. this web site is one thing that is needed on the net, somebody with a bit originality. helpful job for bringing something new to the internet"

Also the red in this picture is meant to be cloth of some sort.

50 Shades of Grey

50 is a LOT of shades of grey to have. I thought it would come together like that and in the end... I guess it did. You know for an arbitrary decision I put a lot of effort into this chicken. I actually started it once before.

Anyways this traffic should start rolling in any minute from all those smut fans... I suppose I should add an exert here. "Cloaco" There we have it.

This is the winner of today's competition. Unlike me he's been training each and every day to compete. I would probably train too if I was competing in anything.

Bright Loops

This chicken is made of bright loops filled with darker colors. I was going to say it accurately emulated the style of something but ti really doesn't/ I mean I don't even know what it would be the style of. Perhaps poorly thought through neon lights?

Fish Chicken 2

I still have not figured out how to make the mer-chicken sexy and mysterious. On the other hand I have kicked the quality up by a mile. Still can't work out how this stupid video program works. I used it before though so I'm not sure why I'm having issues

Buff in the Woods

I made a buff(That's the name of that yellow-ish color) chicken with a ruffled chest in the woods. I am very annoyed though because I made this with the intention of this being one of the first in a series of ones I had recorded as I drew it. I ran the recording software but it crashed at the end. Oh well, I was a tad indecisive about the colors so I suppose it's fine that you don't see me flicking around and recoloring the whole thing.

DracoChicken

I felt a strong desire to draw a dragon, so I started doing that. Then I remembered that I only draw chickens so I tossed that out and thought a bit about the design of a dragon-chicken, which my mind quickly shortened to DracoChicken. He obviously needed scales. His comb I decided should be more like a lizard's fin, and I made the wattle into more of a air sac type of deal. he breathes fire obviously. And he's purple. That last bit wasn't really a design decision per say. It was more of a "Let's pick a color" as I was drawing it.

Figure 8 Rush

This guy is faster than fast. You can tell from the afterimages and ridiculous figure 8 his legs are making.

FrankenChicken

This is the finale! FrankenChicken. Like Frankenstein. Well, really it's like Frankenstein's Monster... Well, really it's like the generic Hollywood Frankenstein's Monster. That's what you really want though so it's fine.

Floral Ghost

This chicken forgot to get a costume so he went with the old standby of Sheet Ghost. Unfortunately the only sheet he had was floral patterned. e certainly missed some memos.

Also he's being followed by a real ghost.

No Leg Ghost

Man... Ghosts don't get to have legs. Or even wings. Even the body usually just goes swishy. The head is often a vague blob. This guy has everything but legs though.

Headless

The headless horseman is a classic tale.

It is a well known fact that a chicken can survive with no head.

This seemed obvious as a result.

I don't think pumpkins get that small though.

Zombie Costume

This is a site about drawings of chickens in silly costumes. As such Halloween is great because I need absolutely no Justification. This is a chicken in a Zombie costume. He's excited to go trick or treating. I'll have more Halloween fun out over the course of the day.

In addition as a small site update I will be going through the site and appending more tags to large numbers of the posts over the next few days.

Looking to the Side

I have used up so many titles. I went and tried to save this as "Sidelong" only to realize I already had one by that name. The next two names I tried I'd used as well, so I gave up and called it Looking to the Side. In retrospect I should have called it a look back, because I used nothing but the old MS Paint palette, even that tacky goldenrod.

Light Burst

If I had some sort of incredible animated series in the works this would probably show up as part of a finishing move. A burst of light in the form of a chicken. At the very least that crazy eye.

Orb

Here I have 4 overlapping circles inside of a larger circle, which strangely enough gave me an impression of depth and I decided was an orb. So I painted it to look like a chicken and that, as they say, was that.

Gradient Flash!

For this piece I decided to play with gradients I like them and they look nice. They take forever, of course, but that's a relatively minor issue since I just think it looks nice. The beak looks like a rising sun showing his ability to crow in the morning.

Not sure why my pace has fallen, but I'll probably just post more things.

Big

This is a big tough guy. I was working on something but then I accidentally saved over it with this... So you get this today. I'll redo it better! This one I don't really care for, but I'm a bit too annoyed to do anything about it. That wing bothers me for some reason.

Wig and Glasses

The suave and mysterious gentleman came from nowhere and swept them off their feet. With his stylish hair and glasses noone ever suspected he was actually just a giant chicken.

By which I mean I discovered Chicken Boo again. I love the Animaniacs.

Paint The World

This chicken is painting the world. You can tell because he has a paint brush on each wing and everything ahead of him is white. He may in fact be just outright creating it.

We have 100 likes on the FaceBook. This is obviously important news and says that I'm awesome and popular. 100 is not that impressive a number, is it? Well, it's still an exciting one.

Not A Square

This guy is hip and young. He's not some loser. He's not square. He has lots of rectangles, and triangles and what have you.

Impression

This picture gives the impression of a chicken. It was made by creating the outline of a chicken, then adding heavy shading and, as a twist, removing the outline. That was my process here. This shadow of a chicken creates the impression which you accept because it is what you expect to see.

Talking

These two chickens are talking to each other. Exactly like you aren't talking to me. Do you understand? I'm trying to prod y'all into talking to me again as I do periodically. I mean I know if I do it too much you'll just start ignoring me obviously.

Anyways I like the way this one looks.

Western Hero

I haven't done any Wild West things in a while. This is obviously a bandit. You can tell because he actually put the bandana up over his face instead of using it as a sensible neckerchief. So he's not really a hero. That's a complete misnomer.

Filled Fan Character Sheet

I got a fan art. It's a filled out Chicken Heroics Character Sheet. Now obviously this guy, goes by the name Cypriss, doesn't know the rules of Chicken Heroics since I haven't released them to anyone but a few people who are helping me with the development. He did suggest that Seeds be a ranged weapon and I have no argument with that.

Now onto the key point. This is just some bad art. Those blank eyes are slightly disorienting. I just feels wide. I don't like the way the beak looks... I like clearer divisions between things. Not sure what I don't like about the comb. Well look, I'm more happy that fan art than I am upset about bad art. I feel like I'm letting you all down by not tearing it apart though... :-(

Looking Up

This one started as a plain boring chicken, but I decided to make it blue, toss some of the black cell-shading I call gritty sharpness on it and throw out the body. Now it's an interesting piece. It is just a tad disorienting.

This chicken gazes into the sun. It it a beautiful world and you should all feel fantastic! Thank you.

Cool Shades

It's been a while since I busted out a chicken wearing some cool shades so I had to throw one down. This guy is in front of some brickwork since that implies a sort of back alley setting.

Character Sheet

I realized today that I haven't posted anything about Chicken Heroics since the end of July, the month I shared its existence with you all. I didn't stop working on it though. It's still going through the development process quite well. I just hadn't wanted to bog down my site with it, though I actually waste quite a bit of time on it.

This is the character sheet for my game. You know, a character sheet actually reveals a lot about a game. For example the fact that the game has Gold, though I guess I just wrote the letter G. You could have assumed that stood for anything.  Also the number of item slots being fixed is on purpose. You can only carry 10 things at a time. I don't like the book-keeping of weights and what have you that some RPG inventories require, and most players ignore, but I also don't like carrying everything and the kitchen sink so a fixed number of item slots seemed good to me.

Also I assume you can doodle, which might be rude, but look. It's not like the portrait has to be some sort of high class piece of fine art. Just needs to send the basic idea of what your guy looks like. I mean the two silhouettes on the sheet are already there to give you an impression of it being about chickens.

Anyways this went through several revisions already, and will probably go through at least a couple more.
